1 L.E. FARINO, PFC, 4TH P.O.T.C. T-55 1943 ORIGINAL MANUSCRIPT NOTEBOOK OF DETAILED INFORMATION REGARDING THE STATE OF AMERICA'S AMMUNITIONS, ARMAMENTS AND METHODS OF BOMB MAKING: "MILITARY EXPLOSIVES REFERENCE"
SAVANNA PROVING GROUNDS ILLINOIS IL 1943 Very Good
On offer is a super, original, manuscript relic of American World War II efforts being the handwritten 'Military Explosives Reference', handwritten and maintained by P.F.C. L.E. Farino, 4th P.O.T.C. T-55. The clamshell type cover protects hundreds of lined pages of illustrations, charts, data, observations and notes outlining the then state of the art 'Bombs, Explosives, Bullets and other Ordnance'. Dated 1943, Savanna Proving Grounds, measures approx. 9" x 11" x 1.5", details what then would have been secret information given the location being the Army's top secret base, [frequently referred to as the Army's version of the Air Force's Area 51]. Reference notes from one online source: "The US Army set up the Savanna Proving Grounds during WWI, with construction starting in 1917. It was originally a remote site for the Rock Island Arsenal to test cannons. A multitude of unexploded shells remain in the area as a result. The Savanna name is easy to confuse with the Department of Energy Savannah River Site in South Carolina. That confusion worked in the favor of the Army as the Savanna site became the home for US Army nuclear weapons projects. Over time, the Savanna installation became a super-secret development and testing lab where the US Army went when it wanted to be alone, much like the Air Force's Area 51." The book is overall VG save for the title page being detached but present.
