1 MRS. ADA L. F. BARNES [WIFE OF DR. FRANCES BARNES] 1931 HANDWRITTEN MANUSCRIPT DIARY OF A HAMBURG NEW YORK PHYSICIAN'S WIFE ADA BARNES
1931 Full-Leather Good+ No Jacket Manuscript
This Date Book is for the year 1931 and contains one entry per page. It previously belonged to ADA L. F. BARNES who lived at 224 Main Street in Hamburg, NY. I believe Ada may have been a Doctor too, perhaps a nurse or she assisted her husband, Dr. Frances Barnes, quite a bit as she mentions various office comings and goings such as "patients arriving from Canada" for "toe amputation"etc. She also describes frequent meetings (an very 'involved' woman juggling home, office and civic responsibilities) shopping trips (mentioning various well known stores in the Buffalo, NY area), and visitors as well as weather, etc. This diary is packed full of detailed information that would be very interesting for anyone researching Western New York genealogy. She also tells of a late September house boat trip, anchoring in Detroit, suffering through a huge storm etc. Early depression era diary but very little mention of hard times. In very good shape save for the cover leather which is drying and chipping on the edges. The diary of her husband is listed separately as item 000071.
