1 MRS. TIMOTHY [ANNA] CRONIN 1936 - 1940 ORIGINAL MANUSCRIPT 5 YR DIARY OF A HARDWORKING DAIRY FARMER
LOWVILLE WATERTOWN CARTHAGE UPSTATE NEW YORK NY 1936 Good+ Manuscript
On offer is the original 5 year 1936 - 1940 manuscript diary handwritten by Mrs. Timothy [Anna] Cronin who with her husband and children run a large farm whose main function appears to be milk and cattle. With great charm the first entry on the endpaper is a list of wedding anniversaries: '1st year cotton, 2nd year paper….' And then on January 1st we read the first, enigmatic entry for the year: 'Infantile Paralysis Hospital Congratulations'. She has, except for 1936, filled in the diary fully and in fact makes additional notes from other years in the dates not used in 1936 when she was far less diligent a diarist. Anna is a keen observer notes all meeting and visits and for the most part names people fully. She also notes the hotels she stays in as she travels which is a lot for their milk deliveries. Living somewhere near Lowville New York the Cronins travel as far west as Watertown to eastwards to Copenhagen up near the Canada border. Also mentioned are Norfolk, Sullivan, Watertown, Odgensburg, Massena, Copenhagen, Martinsburg +++. Names mentioned include: Leona Roade, Arthur Nortz, John Beyer, Ted Rogers, Maurice Loeniker, the Stoffle farm with stays at the Nadeau Hotel, Kelley Hotel and many more. Collectors and historians of Central Upstate New York will have a fair bit to research here. The dark blue diary has the name "ANNA" stamped in gilt on the front cover. Size: 4.25" x 6.5" approx. Overall G+.
Price: 395.99 USD
