1 DAVIES, KERRISON ARCHIVE LOT KERRISON DAVIES, WELSH RECLUSE AND ECCENTRIC, LIFE HISTORY IN A COLLECTION OF ORIGINAL PERSONAL PAPERS, DIARIES AND EPHEMERA RELATING TO THE LIFE OF KERRISON DAVIES OF WERN HOUSE, GILFACHREDA, NEW QUAY, WALES
Wales Britain Good+
On offer is the unique and quite sensational lifetime journals, letters and ephemera of the one of a kind individual Mr. Kerrison Davies who was at one time a Barclays Bank Manager, but his career ended abruptly and he became a recluse, allowing brambles to overwhelm his house. When he died in January 1996, aged 74, his library was separated off and this is a collection of his personal papers relating to THE NEW QUAY AND DISTRICT SOCIETY, WERN CHAPEL, THE FRIENDS OF LLANINA CHURCH, THE CEREDIGION BRANCH OF THE COUNCIL FOR THE PRESERVATION OF RURAL WALES, GREENPEACE, AMNESTY, CND, etc. etc. The collection includes seven hand-written notebooks/diaries/journals, correspondence, letters relating to property, invoices, receipts, plans for building works. Of special interest are the letters of a first cousin who went out to Russia before the 1917 Revolution, accompanying her doctor husband, with a vivid description of their life there and rescue by the American Red Cross. They moved to Hawaii and maintained a life-long correspondence with Davies. This Collection would interest anyone researching rural Wales, recluses, the Russian Revolution - or what is sometimes called "the inner man". Davies was clearly an intelligent man who retreated from everyday life. The Collection nearly fills a banker's box.
