1 MRS. MATILDA [nee WIMPFHEIMER] REIGELMAN 1870s ORIGINAL ARCHIVE OF MANUSCRIPT AUTOGRAPH ALBUMS AND FRIENDSHIP BOOKS AND A MEMORY BOOK OF CONGRATULATORY TELEGRAMS TO THE NEWLYWEDS
DOVER NEW HAMPSHIRE 1870 Good
On offer is a charming archive of 1870s - 1880s manuscript items related to Matilda [sometimes Mathilda] Wimpfheimer and her marriage to S.H. Reigelman in 1880. The Wimpfheimer's patriarch Adolph landed in the USA in 1853 as we find them listed on the passenger manifest of the Samuel M Fox, 15 December 1853 and from that time they established themselves in the small Jewish community of New England particularly New Hampshire. Here is what is in the collection: 1) Bound book of 26 telegrams congratulating them on the wedding from 1880, all handwritten, most from other Jewish families, presented by Adolph; 2) Autograph Album from 1870s; 3) Large Autograph Album from the 1870s to early 1900s. The albums, which appear multi-generational, have some great folk art drawings, calligraphy, including Hebrew inscriptions and quotations and overall will prove and interesting early American Jewish archive for genealogical and social studies. The covers are off one of the albums but present and the binding is somewhat shaky in the other but overall the group is G.
