Groveton, New Hampshire Very Good Manuscript
ON OFFER IS A 5 YEAR LINE A DAY DIARY THAT BELONGED TO RUBERTA SMITH OF GROVETON NEW HAMPSHIRE. OUR DIARIST, IS OBVIOUSLY A YOUNG & HAPPY WITH MANY FRIENDS, LIKED TO GO FOR DRIVES, THE MOVIES, CHURCH, THE LIBRARY. SHE LIKED TO DANCE, MAKE FUDGE & PLAY THE PIANO. IT SEEMS TO COVER A TIME PERIOD WHERE SHE WAS A STUDENT & THEN A TEACHER, A MUSIC TEACHER FOR THE MOST PART BUT SHE MAKES MENTION IN THE LATER YEARS OF GIVING LECTURES AND DEMONSTRATIONS ON DIFFERENT LEVELS OF READING. SHE WRITES OF SCHOOL'S END, FIREWORKS DURING THE 4th OF JULY, THE FALL COLORS, STORMS, THANKSGIVING, HALLOWEEN DANCE, CHRISTMAS. SHE HAS FILLED ABOUT 75% OF THE BOOK MOSTLY THE EARLY YEARS AND THEN IN 1916 SHE BECOMES SPORADIC AND IN 1917 ONLY A FEW DOZEN ENTRIES. WHAT PARTICULARY ENDEARED THE READER TO RUBERTA WAS THIS SIMPLE SNIPPET IN MAY OF 1914: "BLESSED IF I CAN REMEMBER TODAY". CONDITION IS VERY GOOD. SHE HAS ALSO MADE A MEMORANDA WITH OVER 20 NAMES & ADDRESSES OF FRIENDS & RELATIVES. VERY NICE LOOK AT THE HOME FRONT DURING THE WORLD WAR I YEARS.
