CURIOUS 1890 LEATHERBOUND DIARY WITH LATER ADDITION ON DECEMBER 7TH 1941, REGARDING THE ATTACK ON PEARL HARBOR. THIS DIARY FROM AN ESTATE IN UPSTATE NEW YORK BELONGED TO THE WOMAN WHO LIVED IN THE HOUSE FROM AROUND 1890 -1960. THE NAME IS EXTREMELY FAINT BUT WE BELIEVE IT IS MARIA E. ___TEN. SHE ONLY MADE ENTRIES IN JAN. AND FEB. THE REST OF THE PAGES ARE BLANK. UNTIL YOU GET TO THE MEMORANDUM SECTION IN THE BACK OF THE DIARY. HERE IT READS: "DEC. 7TH SUNDAY. WE ARE LISTENING TO RADIO 4:20 PM. HONOLULU- PEARL HARBOR IS BOMBED. FIGHTING HAS GONE ON FOR FIVE HOURS. 5 KILLED. SUBMARINES WORKING IN THAT SECTION AND ALSO ON THE AMERICAN COAST. CABINET MEETING THIS EVENING." AND THEN ON THE NEXT PAGE IT READS: "PEARL HARBOR WAS A BATTLE LOST BY U.S." THIS LATER ENTRY IS MADE BY THE SAME WOMAN WHO WAS WE BELIEVE A YOUNG GIRL IN HER TEENS GOING TO SCHOOL AND WORKING IN A STORE SHE DESCRIBES IN THE FIRST ENTRIES. OTHER EARLY ENTRIES INVOLVE MANY NAMED FRIENDS, VISITORS AND CUSTOMERS. REMARKABLE TO CONSIDER THIS WOMAN WENT BACK TO HER DIARY AFTER 51 YEARS.
