On offer is a super, modest archive of eighteen [18] manuscript letters, all dated in the 1870's, all from the Chicago - Union, Illinois area, Iowa, Missourri, Kansas and even news from Scotland, handwritten and bearing signatures from the McCaull, Atkinson, McDowell families and mentions of many, many more. The archive will provide insight to the life and times for local collectors and historians on the hardships of everyday life in the Midwest: farming, health and family issues, the Great Western Rail Road, firecrackers, deaths, lawsuit, joining the gold rush, child dying from fall, going west to California, school, etc. Literally a wealth of details exemplifying what life was like in the latter half of the 19th century. Folds, 3 letters a bit chewed (affecting some words slightly), but generally very good condition.
