On offer is a wonderful original archive of 40 handwritten letters and 8 items of ephemera including a poem, receipt, report card etc., some from, many to Confederate Colonel Andrew C. Cowles of North Carolina and his family. Cowles [b1833 - d.1881] was from Hamptonville, North Carolina. He was a member of the North Carolina House of Representatives from 1860-64 and a State Senator from 1865-66 and 1870-74.
